Truro Squash and Racketball Club have played host to this season’s Cornwall County Senior Squash Championships. Nearly 40 players from all over the County competed over 2 days in a knockout event, for the coveted silverware.
The tournament attracted some of the County’s top juniors, some of whom battled through their first rounds with incredible tenacity, only to find themselves overwhelmed by their senior and more experienced adversaries.
The Men’s Plate knockout competition semi –final, pitted Newquay team player Mike Morgan against Truro’s Deon Chorley, in a crowd pleasing 3-2 encounter; Mike won through to meet Truro player Robin Gordon, himself a survivor of another gruelling 3-2 semi final encounter with fellow Truro adversary Alex Matthews. Mike went on to win through the final and claim the Plate as his own.
This year’s Men’s Main event final was won by Truro S&RC young coach Rory Brickell, who dominated the County’s defending title holder Jamie Moxom, in a thrilling 3-1 display of determination and racket skill.
The Ladies final was played between Falmouth and Truro’s youngster Katy Brickell and defending title holder and Coach Siobhan Garland; Siobhan went on to claim her 10th County crown beating the fellow club junior 3-1 in a tense and exciting match- up.
The Mackie trophy was awarded to Jared London for his outstanding performance throughout the season in the leagues and also in the County Closed over the weekend. At 16, Jared is the current U17 and 19 Junior County Champion and is regularly selected for SW Regional training squads; his success is testimony to his commitment and hard work.

The weekend was a great mix of excitement and camaraderie, all made possible by the players, supporters, markers and organisers.
